Describe the project's main objective and goals

This project aims to optimize the advanced manufacturing processes involved in producing Pocket Clinic’s 7-day wearable smart injector, with a specific focus on waste reduction, recyclability, and process efficiency.

Waste Management Objectives:

  • Redesign manufacturing workflows to reduce material waste during component production (e.g., microfluidic components, cartridges, and electronics).
  • Implement closed-loop recycling strategies for components used in the patch pump housing and sealing systems.
  • Evaluate packaging and labeling methods to reduce single-use plastic waste in clinical and at-home settings.

Advanced Manufacturing Focus:

  • Adopt high-precision additive manufacturing and micro-molding techniques to minimize material overuse.
  • Integrate real-time quality monitoring to reduce defective parts and improve yield in cartridge assembly.
  • Explore bio-based or recyclable alternatives for certain components.

Potential Extensions:

  • Design for Disassembly: Create modular components (e.g., interchangeable cartridges) that facilitate easier end-of-life processing.

Deliverables

The project will deliver a comprehensive process improvement report tailored to the production of Pocket Clinic's smart injector. Deliverables will include:

  • A waste audit and material flow analysis of the current manufacturing line.
  • Process maps identifying areas for waste reduction and process bottlenecks.
  • Evaluation of recyclable and reusable materials in the design.
  • A list of actionable recommendations to enhance sustainability and manufacturability.
  • An implementation roadmap for scaling up with minimal environmental footprint.
